Emmanuel Nii Adom Quaye, known as Strika from the acclaimed film ‘Beasts of No Nation,’ has been arrested in Kwashieman, Accra, after allegedly being caught stealing metal scraps from a construction site.
The incident, which quickly went viral on social media, shows the former child actor being apprehended by local residents who allegedly witnessed him cutting metal components from an overhead bridge under construction.
In the widely circulated video, Strika appears disheveled and emotionally distressed as bystanders force him to carry the stolen metal on his head. Witnesses at the scene reported that the actor appeared to be in a state of desperation.
This latest incident sheds light on the challenges the former child star has faced since his breakout role. Strika gained international recognition in 2015 for his performance alongside Idris Elba in the Netflix film “Beasts of No Nation,” which brought him global attention and critical acclaim.
However, reports suggest that the actor has struggled with substance abuse issues in recent years despite his early success.
His current situation has raised concerns about the welfare of child actors after they leave the spotlight.
The viral video has generated significant discussion across social media platforms, with reactions split between sympathy and criticism
Many Ghanaians have expressed disappointment that Strika’s former co-star, Abraham Attah, has not offered assistance to help him rebuild his life. Attah, who played the lead role in the film, has maintained a successful acting career since the movie’s release.
Other commentators argue that Strika had opportunities to build a sustainable career in entertainment but failed to capitalize on his initial fame. Some suggest that better post-fame support systems for child actors could have prevented such outcomes.
Strika’s situation highlights broader issues affecting child actors in the entertainment industry including lack of long-term financial planing and career guidance.
Mental health challenges have also impacted on his career after sudden fame fades as well as limited support systems provided to young performers are not adequate enough to transition to adulthood.
This incident has sparked conversations about the responsibility of the film industry to provide ongoing support to young talents. The “Beasts of No Nation” case has become a cautionary tale about the challenges facing child stars in developing film markets.
Industry observers suggest that better mentorship programs, financial literacy education, and mental health support could help prevent similar situations in the future.
As at publishing this news, no official statement has been released regarding the outcome of the incident however Strika is still in need of assistance.
Community leaders in Kwashieman have called for a more compassionate approach, suggesting that the actor may benefit from rehabilitation and professional help rather than punishment.
