Ghanaian broadcaster Adwoa Imelda has sparked discussion after advising married women to consider having a wealthy man they can rely on outside their marriages.
Imelda made the remarks while discussing what she described as unacceptable behaviour by some married men toward their wives.
According to the broadcaster, women should not put themselves in a position where they are left without support if their marriages eventually break down.
She suggested that having a financially stable “side dude” could provide a form of backup in case of divorce or other unexpected circumstances.
Imelda who is also a voice over artist argued that marriage does not always last forever and, for that reason, women should consider protecting their interests and ensuring that they have someone they can depend on.
The broadcaster reportedly made the comments during her appearance on JoyPrime’s night show, “Talk Your Shh.”
While speaking about the challenges some women face in marriage, she encouraged women to have another source of support they could lean on, particularly in situations where their husbands fail to treat them appropriately.
”The way men are, I will advise that when a woman gets married, she should have a standby man so that she can lean her shoulder on and don’t loose since divorce can happen at anytime” — she said

Adwoa Imelda’s Comments Spark Debate
Her remarks have generated debate, particularly because of the suggestion that a married woman should maintain a relationship with another man as a form of financial or emotional security.
The idea of having a rich man on standby while married is likely to attract different reactions from the public.
Some may interpret Imelda’s comments as a call for women to be financially independent and prepared for unexpected changes in their marriages.
Others may view the suggestion of keeping a romantic partner outside a marriage as problematic and potentially damaging to marital trust.
At the centre of the discussion is Imelda’s broader point that circumstances can change and that people in relationships should not become completely dependent on their partners.
The comments have therefore opened another conversation about marriage, financial independence, divorce and the responsibilities spouses have toward each other.
Adwoa Imelda’s remarks come amid ongoing public conversations about marriage, relationships and the treatment of women within relationships.
Her particular suggestion of having a wealthy man as a backup, however, has added a controversial dimension to the discussion, with social media users and relationship commentators likely to have differing opinions on whether such an approach is practical or appropriate.
For now, the comments have drawn attention to a familiar question: how should married people prepare themselves financially and emotionally for the possibility that a relationship may not last?
